Carl Hoverson started raising potatoes in 1981 with just 40 acres. N ow they have expanded to 4,500 acres of potatoes on 13,000 acres of land in 1997, a figure that’s held constant for the past five years. That’s why Carl is known around the area as “Mr. Spud”. The farm employs 26 people full-time.
“You have to have a good solid crew to make this whole thing work,” Hoverson says. “They have to have as much dedication as I do. It’s fun to work with people who are enthused about what they’re doing.”
